I was saying to someone the other day after i installed the one-click sync that its so nice to come across a person that actually finished a project that was started. Well done - you rock!

Hi!

This is a great program.

Is there a way to configure it so the sync runs automatically each time I connect the Iphone or sync with Itunes, or do I have to start the programm manually every time?

Best regards from Luxembourg!

What a good suggestion from Luxembourg!

I'll think about it and see what I can do.

This is a great program! It reall ysave e a lot. But is this program support sync with more than 1 computer?
When I syn with computer A, the notes in iphone will replaced by computer A notes. When I syn with computer B, the notes will replaced by computer B notes. The notes in computer A B won;t merge together. Am I miss something?

Hi vtsuper,

Thank you for your appreciation.

Regarding to the situations you have observed, it is the expected behavior. The reason is that iOutNotes did not find the notes (tagged with Outlook ID of computer A) of Computer A when you are syncing with Computer B, and perceive them as deleted notes. In other words, iOutNotes caters only one Outlook database only.

If you want to merge the notes in Computer A and Computer B, please find below the procedure to achieve it. Mind you that the method will result both your computer A and computer B having the same set of notes.

1. Sync with Computer A
2. Temporary deletes all notes in Computer B (They can be recovered from the Trash bin in Outlook later)
3. Sync with Computer B and answer "Y" when being asked for recovering all notes from iPhone.
4. After that, all notes in Computer A are restored into Computer B
5. Undelete the temporary deleted notes of Computer B
6. Sync again
7. Then your iPhone will have both notes of Computer A and Computer B.
8. However, the story is not ended until you do the same for Computer A.

Nevertheless, the situation will not happen if computer A and Computer B are using the same set of Outlook PST (for example, storing in a portable USB disk drive and plugged into either computer A or computer B when in use).

Hi vtsuper,

Yes, I am currently located in Hong Kong.

Regarding to the handling of multiple computers, the embedded outlook ID has to be expanded to also contain the computer ID. I can try to craft one for you but I cannot commit you the completion time.

If you are interested to know about the notes.db structure, you may download the sqlite tool from http://www.sqlite.org/download.html and type the command ".schema”in the interactive shell to understand the database schema.

Thanks again.

One more function request. In outlook notes, it support using folders. It is possible to support sync the computer and iphone with folders?

By the way, will you put your code into cydia?

A.M. said...

Hi Pong,

Yes, syncing with folder is possible.

Would you please help to elaborate more about the need? For ease of communication, you may email me directly.

Regarding to placing the code in Cydia, I am not sure whether they want it because iOutNotes is not an iPhone app.

Please comment.

Alan

Hi Alan,

Works great first time. (Once I read the instructions)

probably not possible but how about taking the 1st line of each note and producung an index. Valuable for people who use the notes features a lot

help needed!!!

can not find NOTES.DB on the iphone via i-funbox as well when i execute the batch ioutnotes i get a DOS message saying NOTES.DB NOT FOUND. its a 3G iPhone...

any idea?

A.M. said...

Hi Robert,

There are two major reasons that the notes.db file is not found in iPhone.

1. The iPhone is not jailbreak yet, so the folder is inaccessible.

2. There is no note created using the native notes app before, so the database is not generated.

If it is not the cases, please feel free to email me.

Alan

Hi Alan,

Thanks a lot for creating this program. It works great and is so useful. Well done.
Now you have to do the same for Outlook Exchange email :-)

Hi Alan,
I love this program it works great! An idea, how about doing the same thing with tasks? ie. being able to sync outlook tasks with one of the free iPhone "To-do" apps?

A.M. said...

Hi Kosala,

It will depend on which ToDo app you would like to sync with and the underlying database format.

In fact, it is not a good idea to build on top of third party app unless there is a published data format available.

Alan,

when a know the firmware 3.0 will privide notes sync function, I think about your note sync immediately, becuase your position become embarrassed. So what will you do net?

But after I upgrade to firmware 3.0, I believe that it is not purfect yet. Because it doesn't support folder. And iphone still not support sync task. So you will have a lot of way to go...^__^

Hi Pong,

Hahaha... Interesting comment! Thanks for your caring.

I am very happy to see Apple finally takes the right move, and I amuse myself that my script did give them a push for the "mercy". Honestly, I am in no competition with them since my script is far from perfect in certain extent.

As I do not find any native Task/To-Do app, I would wonder where tasks should sync into the iPhone. Please suggest so.

Cheers,
Alan
